Open For Walk-Ins Every Day!

I’m Chex Mix, a 4-year-old Hound Mix weighing 70 pounds. Surrendered to the shelter when my family could no longer take care of me, I’m hoping for a second chance!

One variety snack pack for sure, I am a delicious mix of bouncy energy and low-key gentleness. I ask that my new forever family have patience with me though. All the change in my life recently has left me a bit anxious with new faces and new places. Also shy with some handling, the best way to win me over is with calm and slow pets.

With summer just around the corner, I will need the help of my new family to get me beach body ready! Keeping me mentally and physically satisfied will take some work, but we’re in this together! Lots of puzzle enrichment and outdoor play are great exercise methods for this spirited boy! While I love exploring the outdoors, I can quickly put on the brakes, so getting steps in could be at my own pace. If I stall too long, get those muscles ready because you may need to pick me up!

Since I’m in foster with a fun dog friend, I could potentially go home with a well-matched canine companion who also wants to play!

Interested in meeting me? You will be glad you did! The Monmouth County SPCA is open for walk-ins every day, starting at noon!

How to Adopt a Pet

Can't adopt? Join our Sponsor a Pet Program!

Adoption Hours:

Monday 12-5pm

Tuesday 12-5pm

Wednesday 12-7pm

Thursday 12-7pm

Friday 12-7pm

Saturday/Sunday 12-5pm

We only do adoptions in person (please bring all family members).

We will ask you to fill out an Adoption Survey and speak with an Adoption Counselor to help find your perfect match!

We are open to the public for walk-ins!

You can save time and fill out a survey online, they are also available at the shelter. Completing a survey does not secure any animal for adoption. You do not need to submit a survey to visit, nor do you need to receive a response to a survey to visit. The survey is NOT an application that needs approval.

Adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment, so finding the right match is very important.

Finding the perfect pet takes time. The process usually takes at least an hour, so please plan accordingly. All adoption paperwork must be submitted to the front desk one hour before closing.

Adopters are encouraged to bring their own carrier or leash and collar.
