The Monmouth County SPCA is now offering a Puppy 101 instructional class and a Puppy Pre-K and Basic Obedience Canine training course for new or prospective puppy and dog owners. Three different courses will be offered for dog owners who want to learn how to set their puppy up for success and build your dog’s confidence!

Puppy 101 - "Play N Learn"
Start ‘em young” Research has shown that the early weeks of a puppy’s life are crucial to social development, both with other dogs and with people. Every day that goes by without socializing and training your young pup is a day lost to his or her social future. This 45-minute class is especially for puppies who are 8-20 weeks old, who will get to socialize and spend time learning with each other. In addition to socialization, you will have a great opportunity to participate in a Q +A session where our certified trainers will address “Name Recognition and Mouthing” as well as any other topics brought up. This socialization class will have you and your puppy well on your way to growing up to be a well-adjusted dog and to enjoying a happy life together.
Your puppy should have been seen by a vet and be deemed healthy before you bring him/her to class. Puppies in class may not have received all their vaccinations. If you are concerned about this, speak to your vet before enrolling, and read the recommendation from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.

Puppy Pre-K - "Building Confidence"
Package includes four 45 minute sessions consisting of 30 minutes of instructor led group training and 15 minutes of puppy socialization. Open to puppies up to 6 months of age. Instructors will show and demonstrate look, sit/stay, down and touch while you practice with your puppy in a group setting with hands on instruction.
Cost: $250.00
Basic Obedience - "Advancing Skills"
Package includes four 45-minute sessions consisting of 30-minutes of instructor led group training and 15 minutes of dog socialization. This class is open to dogs who already have an understanding of basic cues or graduates of Puppy Pre-K. Instructors will show and demonstrate the importance of wait, leave it go to place.

Meet the Instructors!
Stacy Handler currently works as a canine adoptions counselor at the MCSPCA and holds a CCDT certification from Catch Dog Training Academy with distinction, and CPDT-KA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. Stacy is certified in first aid and CPR for pets and is a supporting member in good standing of the IAABC.
