Are you a first time puppy owner, or thinking about getting a puppy? The Monmouth County SPCA is now offering a Puppy 101 class, Puppy Pre-K and Basic Obedience Canine training course for new or prospective puppy and dog owners. Three different courses will be offered for prospective dog owners who want to learn how to set your puppy up for success and build your dog’s confidence!

Puppy 101 - "Learn the Basics"

This 60-minute learning session is ideal for first time dog owners and anyone seeking a successful start to a well behaved puppy! Topics in the class will cover house breaking, food, living area/creating your puppy den, crate use, enrichment and mouthing. The class will end with a Q&A. This informative class is for people only; no pets.

Cost: $75.00
Puppy Pre-K - "On to Cues"

Package includes four 45 minute sessions consisting of 30 minutes of instructor led group training and 15 minutes of puppy socialization. Open to puppies up to 6 months of age. Instructors will show and demonstrate look, sit/stay, down and touch while you practice with your puppy in a group setting with hands on instruction.

Cost: $200.00
Basic Obedience - "Building Confidence"

Package includes four 45-minute sessions consisting of 30-minutes of instructor led group training and 15 minutes of dog socialization. This class is open to dogs who already have an understanding of basic cues or graduates of Puppy Pre-K. Instructors will show and demonstrate the importance of wait, leave it and loose leash walking.

Meet the Instructors!

Kathy Derry currently works as the Canine Behavior & Adoption Manager at the MCSPCA and holds a CCDT certification from Catch Dog Training Academy. Kat is certified in FFCT, first aid and CPR for pets and is a supporting member in good standing of the IAABC.

Mary Tierney currently works as the Assistant Canine Behavior & Adoption Manager at the MCSPCA and holds a ABCDT certification from The Animal Behavior College. Mary is certified in FFCT, ABC Training Shelter Dog, first aid and CPR for canines and is a supporting member in good standing of the IAABC. 

Stacy Handler currently works as a canine adoptions counselor at the MCSPCA and holds a CCDT certification from Catch Dog Training Academy. Stacy is certified in first aid and CPR for pets and is a supporting member in good standing of the IAABC.
