With “kitten season” right around the corner, Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital has decided to help the Monmouth County SPCA by providing housing for cats or kittens available for adoption. In early March, the OVH team set up a cat condo in the waiting area of the hospital in order to provide easy viewing access for clients. The condo will house up to four kittens or two adult cats at a time; during this time OVH will provide food and medical care. Anyone who is interested in adopting the cats is encouraged to meet or play with them in their “playroom” (a designated exam room), supervised by a technician.
Colleen Wallace, a technician at OVH, has been an integral part of the process, communicating with the MCSPCA and coordinating the adoption process from the OVH side. She has worked at the MCSPCA and is familiar with how the shelters can fill up so quickly and get overwhelmed. The number of cats needing homes right now is quite staggering; OVH’s efforts will hopefully help to reduce the strain by providing another adoption outlet for them. To anyone who might be thinking about adding a furry companion to their family, come on down to Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital today!
