NEPTUNE — An Embury Avenue man has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges after he was captured by a surveillance camera tormenting and abusing a dog before the canine turned the tables on him and attacked.
George McIlvain, 23, was captured on surveillance video on March 8 inside a yard where he was working and is seen tormenting the dog by blowing compressed air in the animal’s face and eventually is seen kicking and punching the dog in the face. The canine is seen turning the tables on him and attacking McIlvain behind a trailer before the man appears to stagger out and away from the dog, the video shows. It was supplied by Victor “Buddy” Amato, Chief Law Enforcement Officer at the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
McIlvain pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty in front of Municipal Court Judge Robin T. Wernik on Thursday and was fined $650 and ordered to enter into psychiatric treatment and barred from animal ownership for five years, Amato explained.
McIlvain was fired from his job, Amato added.
