She cried constantly for her owner. One of our volunteers took Sparkle home with her and 5 foster kittens. Ever since, Sparkle has blossomed in her role as “foster mommy.” As you can see, the kittens love Sparkle and she is now eating, purring and rolling over for belly rubs. When the kittens are old enough to be adopted, Sparkle will be looking for her own forever home. Will that be with you?

They love to be petted and held and they love to play! Both cats will greet you with a kiss, a head butt and a purr. Their other favorite past time is to curl up together for a good grooming session and a nap. These are two sweet cats who would love to find a home together.

Eric is a handsome 3 year old kitty. He was abandoned on the street over a year ago and a Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the Monmouth County SPCA to find his forever home. Eric is shy when you first meet him, but quickly becomes your best friend! Eric’s favorite time of day is lunchtime. When he hears the kitty food cart coming, he runs over to the door and paws at it just like a dog does to be let outside!

Robert Murphy is the teen force behind the Run for the Animals. The yearly race will be held this June 16, 2012 at Monmouth Battlefield Park. Murphy started the race four years ago at the age of twelve. Murphy explained, “After I saw commercials on TV (for national animal welfare organizations) I wanted to help all the abused and neglected animals, but I wanted to do something big. I decided to combine this with my passion for running, and that’s how the event started.”

While the majority of the funds raised are generated from participants there has been growing support from vendors and sponsors. This year the race has received support from large and small companies such as; Shop Rite, Applebees, Verizon, Wegmans, Hometown Cleaners, Whole Foods, Ms. Bagel, Raintree Veterinary Hospital, GMC, Dunkin’ Donuts and All Season’s Pet Resort just to mention a few. For a complete list of all the very generous businesses please check out the Run for the Animals website (www.runanimals.zoomshare.com). Murphy, a student at Freehold Township High School is the largest contributor to the MCSPCA under the age of 18 with the 2011 race proceeds reaching $7,000.

Every year the race participation has grown bigger and bigger. Last year the race saw over 500 people registered to run and 400 finishing the race. There were also 200 dogs entered into the 2011 race a far cry from the 60 that participated the previous year. “We are excited to partner with the Run for the Animals again this year. Robby Murphy and his family have helped build this event into a major fundraiser for us. We were proud to recognize him at the Animal Welfare Federation of NJ (AWFNJ) Conference as Junior Hero to Animals, and know that this year’s race will be the most successful ever,” said Meghan Rehbein, MCSPCA Director of Development.

Registration for the 4th Annual Run for the Animals 3K and 40yd. Doggie Dash is currently underway and entrants who sign-up by May 27th qualify for the $10.00 entrance fee and will qualify for a FREE race t-shirt. The Doggie Dash starts at 10am and all dogs must be registered for the dash with a $1.00 fee, they must be on a leash and accompanied by their owner at all times. While dogs need to be signed up for the dash they can run in the 3K for free with owners when the race starts at 10:15am.

To learn more about participating in the yearly run or to download a registration form please visit www.runanimals.zoomshare.com.

She really loves to be outside, whether running or playing or just lying around. Kiera is learning to not get so excited when strangers come to the house. She knows “excuse yourself” – she runs into her crate!
