Monmouth County SPCA gives homeless dogs a new leash on life

Every year, animal shelters around the country receive more dogs and cats than they can possibly find homes for in their communities.

We know what that’s like and strive every day to find homes for all of our adoptable pets. While we still have some pet overpopulation issues, our community has done a great job in eliminating the euthanasia of adoptable pets. Today, only animals that are not deemed adoptable for temperament or health reasons are euthanized.

But our role in saving pets’ lives is far from over.

Because of our successes, we have been chosen by PetSmart Charities® as one of the few shelters in the country to receive adoptable puppies and dogs through their innovative Rescue Waggin’® program.

Rescue Waggin’ is a unique shelter transport program that moves adoptable dogs from shelters with very high euthanasia to shelters like ours, where adoptable dogs have a better chance at finding a home.

Through this partnership and collaborations with local animal welfare agencies across the country, our shelter is saving the lives of puppies and dogs that would otherwise have been euthanized.

We are proud to be a part of the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin’ program and proud that our city can serve as a role model in creating a humane community.
