In memory of Joan Mullen

We are very sad to announce the passing of a long-time friend of the Monmouth County SPCA, Joan Mullen.  Joan was one of the “originals” in many ways.  Joan has been an integral part of the organization for over 50 years, and served on our Board of Trustees almost from the beginning.   She rarely missed a Board meeting and could always be counted on for her support.  Back in the days when the MCSPCA was struggling, Joan was known to come in, stand at the front counter with checkbook in hand and say “what do you need today?”  Joan was always there when the animals needed her!

There was a special place in Joan’s heart for our Humane Law Enforcement Division.  She believed that first and foremost as an SPCA our first priority was to the neglected and mistreated creatures who needed us to stand up for them.   She was proud of our Division and its leadership role in the state of NJ and she helped make it what it is today.

Joan loved a good party and always showed up for MCSPCA events in style.  Even her walker was a stylish red!   Joan loved life and it showed in her kind and compassionate nature.   She will be missed for her tremendous sense of humor, her level-headedness, her integrity, and most of all for her commitment to animals and to the MCSPCA.
