Agency collaborates with partner organizations to transfer more than 100 rescued beagles to sanctuaries for evaluation, treatment, adoption
July 7, 2010
Eatontown, NJ – Five of the 120 beagles rescued from a bankrupt New Jersey laboratory are safe and being cared for at the MCSPCA (Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The beagles were rescued from a life destined for lab tests in partnership with animal welfare organizations across New Jersey and nation-wide.
Approximately 120 beagles ages three to five-years-old were taken from the Aniclin Preclinical Services in Warren County, NJ, after Aniclin’s parent pharmaceutical company could not pay its bills, according to the Times Herald-Record in New York’s Hudson Valley. After being caught up in the bankruptcy court proceedings, a judge ruled the beagles, locked in the medical facility their whole lives, be released to the care of animal rescue groups.
“We have been working closely with our partners at Best Friends Animal Society in Utah and St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, NJ to get these wonderful dogs on the right path to a new life,” said Laurie Garrison, Executive Director of the MCSPCA. “Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers welcomes the opportunity to nurture them and provide them with a fresh start.”
All of the rescued dogs have been examined, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and now await a better life.
“All five of these beautiful dogs have lived in a cage their entire lives; they have never felt the sun or the grass at their feet. They all have great dispositions, a ton of energy and are ready to be adopted to a loving home where they will finally have the chance to actually be a dog,” said Isa Fowler, MCSPCA Adoptions Manager.

About the MCSCPA
The Monmouth County SPCA is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1945 to care for the community’s homeless animal population. The organization receives no federal or state and little local funding, but instead relies entirely on private donations and modest fees for services to fund its many programs. Over 4,000 animals came through the MCSPCA’s doors in 2009.
The mission of the MCSPCA is to protect and advocate for all animals. We are dedicated to enforcing animal cruelty laws; providing a safe haven for homeless, abused and abandoned pets while they await adoption; reducing pet over-population through spay/neutering; and cultivating the humane treatment of animals through education and service as a valuable community resource.
